My Poems
DRAVEN
Draven is my first grand boy
He brings my life so much joy.
Who would’ve guessed,
I’d have been so blessed!
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
I thank God every day,
For sending Draven my way.
Sometimes he cries and fusses,
That’s when I mutter a few cusses.
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
For most of the time,
He’s truly sublime.
I’d not trade him in,
He’s just too cute a kin.
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
He is definitely a keeper!
My love for him grows ever so deeper.
The world’s a little brighter place,
Since Draven joined the human race.
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
As I watch him sit and play,
I wonder what my mother would say.
I know she’d have enjoyed him so,
She’d have held on and never let him go!
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
I understand that type of thinking,
Life moves on in a blinking.
I’m so glad I didn’t miss,
An awesome grandkid like this!
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
He rules my life by stealing my heart,
It’s been that way since the very start.
I was there to witness him pop out,
He snuck out without a shout.
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry.
I knew he was a good baby right there,
He came into the world with not a care.
He entered my life and filled it with delight,
From that moment forward life seems so right!
To this world he came in,
So innocent and void of sin.
How lucky am I,
I got to hear his first cry!

VALENTINE
Roses are blue,
Violets are red.
I Love You,
Is what will be said.
This day marks a celebration of the heart,
They’ll be plenty of candy bought from Wal-mart.
Even with the economy fairly dull,
I predict it won’t make this holiday null.
People are used to the celebratory way,
They just want to embrace and enjoy this day.
With cards, candy, roses or a just a song,
No matter how you express it, you can’t go wrong.
“I love you my dear”,
Is what you’ll likely hear.
The question you will likely pose,
“Will you be mine?” … That’s how it goes.
Roses usually are red and violets truly are blue,
But we throw them into poems like this anywho.
Here’s hoping this holiday is loaded with fun
Bringing Peace, Love and Joy to Everyone!

HERE’S TO THE NEW YEAR
Well 2009 will soon be upon us,
and 2008 should leave without much fuss.
Here’s hoping for a better year,
and that 2009 brings with it some cheer.
While it’s true the economy seems bleak,
maybe 2009 will give it a tweak.
To change the outcome of it all,
we pray that happens with the drop of the ball.
We will all look with great expectation,
that something will end the rising inflation.
Stabilize our falling economy so it doesn’t crash,
we certainly don’t want a 1929 rehash.
Here’s to the New Year… let’s hope it’s great.
I certainly pray it’s better to us than 2008.
It brings with it a lot of promise to embrace,
let’s hope it brings out the best in the human race!

PROGRESSING FORWARD
I’m hoping 2008 will be totally great
I start school soon, I can hardly wait
I am taking 24 credits this coming term
Sheesh that will surely make me a bookworm!
I’m taking science and math that I need
One can feel overwhelmed indeed
My hope is that I sail through
Getting high grades is what I strive to do.
Wish me luck on this journey as it is about to crest
Of course my future plans will never arrest
On to university is my next stop
I plan to make it over the top!
Next it will be my MCAT test
For it will show what I know best
Then medical colleges will I apply
On my merits I will surely rely.
I expect to do quite well with my medical studies
I will of course have my sons for study buddies!
We’re going that last mile together
Through many storms we’ll inevitably weather.
One day when we reach our intended goals
We’ll realize our new societal roles
Practicing medicine will be such enjoyment
It will make me proud that’s my employment.

SMALL SEA
Salt water fish are exciting for me,
Like recreating a small part of the sea.
Through the glass the tank does come alive.
Arranging it pretty is the goal I do strive.
Adding snails and shrimp as a clean up crew,
helps make it less work for you to do.
Pretty colored fish swimming about,
when you feed how fast they come out!
Corals seem so stuck in their place,
how nice they look upon the rock’ s face.
The gentle balance between the creatures
is one of the hobby’s best features!

SCIENCE IS MY FRIEND
Science certainly gives us the truth,
utilizing tests it shows the proof.
Whether you believe it or not,
Its affected everything you’ve got.
Science is to thank for many comforts in your life,
it’s never meant to cause any strife.
Seeking to find the truth in our natural world is its goal,
could it be why we get a diamond from black coal?
Whatever answers you might seek,
check into science – just give it a peek.
You might just find what you’re looking for,
If not, try looking some more.
Science is a friend of mine,
it gives the truth every time.

HUMANDOM
What makes us tick,
does anyone really know?
How far back does human study actually go?
Who can fathom what it was like without a car,
You’d think the people couldn’t travel very far.
They created things we can’t figure out how.
There was even a beautiful ornamental cow,
from jewels and metals some precious for sure,
they used all sorts of colors even a bright azure.
The Greeks gave us gods galore.
They were full of mystical allure.
Human-like and needed to be pleased,
they lived their life to keep them appeased.
The Romans built the arenas for sports.
They had games and matches of sorts.
They built and designed and created,
things they made still are not out dated.
The Jews gave us the commandments to obey.
The Christians gave us Jesus to show us the way.
The Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists have their own belief.
Over the eras they adorned with statues and relief.
Who knows what our legacy will be,
One-day kids will be learning about me,
Television, plastic, computers, cars, electricity
Wondering… What will the pinnacle be?

SCHOOL HAZE
Some people come into your life unexpectedly it would appear,
and for some reason they are there to cause you grief.
You try your best to do what you can to keep them from getting near,
but hard as you try you just can’t manage to get the relief.
It seems a person like that has come by way of school.
I wish I had had a crystal ball to have known this would be.
I don’t know what I ever did to him for him to be so cruel,
some days I feel like he goes out of his way to pick on me.
It has cost me lots of points on my grade thus far,
try as I may I can’t figure what I did on the first test.
I hope it doesn’t cause my GPA a huge scar,
from now on I will just do my very, very best.
I try really hard not to let it get me down.
When I sit in class each minute takes an hour.
I certainly will never ever show him a frown.
He holds all the cards and has all the power.
I won’t give him the satisfaction of knowing how I feel,
what would it benefit me if he did?
Somehow, some way I’ll get through this ordeal,
he treats me worse than a grade school kid.
My satisfaction will come at the end of the course.
I will do whatever it takes to achieve my goal.
I’ll work my butt off now without remorse,
I’ll go on being me but he’ll always be a lost soul.

HOW DID WE GET HERE
What a crazy world we do live in.
There’s so much to say where to begin?
When you think you are safe in your life
You can suddenly fall upon turmoil and strife.
People are trying to better themselves,
So they can do more than stock shelves.
They go to school to gain an education
Or perhaps they are there to learn a vocation.
They most likely feel safe to go to school
For some people life on campus is even cool.
Then all of a sudden our foundation is rocked
By some lunatic who’s wielding a gun that’s cocked.
He unloads rounds of ammunition all over the place
Hitting people in their legs, stomachs and face.
Many people senselessly die
As the entire campus goes awry.
We see traces of Columbine tragedy here
Who would’ve expected this to rear.
So many lives have been shattered.
So many people have now been battered.
How will we as a society pick up and move on?
It will take all the newfound fears to be gone.
Somehow we have to heal and go on our path
This is tough to do in any aftermath.
The families and friends these victims left
Are without a doubt now bereft.
Can’t imagine what it’s like to be in their shoes
Hearing such unspeakable horrific news.
In the end all we can do is pray
Hoping that helps them get through their day.
Thoughts and prayers are sprinkled around
They bring with them a peaceful sound.
We pray for the day when calm does exist.
When stability and peace does subsist.
When we can get on with our lives not just in a normal fashion
But when we can go on forward with a lot of passion.
What will it take for this balance to restore?
To get life back to what it was once before.
We must rid the violence that has become the norm
And make peace and compassion take on new form.

VETERINARIAN
Animal doctors treat them all,
They have to be on the ball.
When your pet gets sick
You run to them right quick.
They have a puzzle to undo
So they look to you for a clue.
They poke around with care
In places you’d not dare.
Their goal is to make your pet well
Sometimes it’s hard to tell.
Think of how hard it is to be
Only able to judge what you see.
They cannot ask them a question
So that can create some tension.
Frustration can creep up
When you have a sick pup
And the vet can’t figure it out
Then you start to have doubt.
Remember they do their best
Sometimes have to run a test
But in the end remember this
They’re there even if your cat does hiss.
An oath it is that they do take
For a better doctor they will make.
Next time you need to go to your vet
Be grateful they’re there for your pet.

WHAT IS LOVE
What is love
fleeting like a dove
can it be
you and me
only time tells
ring wedding bells
for it to last
a lifetime blast
souls seek mates
more than just dates
others can’t hinder
what our hearts cinder
run away we must
could be out of lust
however it be true
that I was meant for you.

TECH TODAY
Computers are a way of life,
Taking them away cuts like a knife.
You can’t do a thing without one,
They’re used for work as well as fun.
When did we get so consumed?
It makes you feel like we are doomed.
All it takes is a virus to spread,
For everyone in the world to see red.
We went from a purely natural state,
To having machines control our fate.
When did this come to pass?
That we are so engulfed en mass.
We take them with us on the go,
They contain everything we need to know.
We cannot function on our own accord,
We now need the help of a motherboard!

KITTENS
Pitter patter of tiny feet
Running about sure is neat
These have claws they use
Not just on my shoes
They climb up my leg
Till I scream and beg
For them to halt
Okay it’s my fault
I let them romp about
Till they make me shout
They truly are cute kittens
One sports white mittens
They fill the house with joy
To the grandkid they are a toy
Scampering all over the place
Making a mess of my space
I’d not have it any other way
For they truly brighten my day
Pitter patter of tiny feet
Running about sure is neat!

BAN WAGON
All animals come from the wild,
Some are tempered much more mild.
People who state they don’t belong in our life,
Are just looking to make grief and cause strife.
Exotic pets do make good ones,
Some people keep them by the tons.
Who’s to say what you should do,
Or if having them is right for you.
I prefer a world of peace and joy,
Sometimes neigh-sayers have a ploy.
To take what’s rightfully yours to keep,
Into your lives they delve deep.
Government controls far too much,
Sometimes I feel they are not in touch.
The people behind the bans are on a mission,
They just want to see private owners out of commission.
Is it truly a safety issue they seek,
Or are they just preying after the weak?
When our loving pets are outlawed,
That’s a sign we live in a society that is flawed.
Keeping a cougar in your yard,
Is something they look to have barred.
Experience is not something they seek,
They spread lies and know not what they speak.
Somehow our legislators listen to them though,
Maybe it’s because they give them the dough?
No practical reason for banning my choice of pet,
They are in their cage and cause no one a threat.
Perhaps one day the only cougar you will see,
Will be printed on what used to be a tree.
For in the wild we know they can’t exist well,
Obviously the move to ban is on, as far as I can tell.
This is a shame for future people to come,
They will probably think we were quite dumb.
For my bet is they would have liked to see,
A live cougar up close and happy as can be!

COURSE WORK
Roses can be quite thorny for sure
Violets are flowers that are very pretty
Thank goodness this class isn’t a bore
It’s full of people that are cunning and witty
I thought this web course might be a chore
But I feel like I am doing great for an old bitty
The end of the work I’ll go till there’s no more
When it’s done I might say, oh what a pity!
The course we studied did have such a lure
It took literature down to the nitty-gritty
I worked so much that my fingers are sore
However since I’m done I get to go pet my big kitty.

MAKING THE GRADE
It’s no secret I prefer poems that rime.
If given a choice, I’ll pick it every time.
Not that I don’t enjoy any of the others.
But it’s what I’d pick if given my druthers.
There are various genre of literary work.
Certainly a plethora placed inside our book.
Perhaps I’d choose a fictional story,
It wouldn’t be anything overly gory.
This poetry essay has been a little tough,
I certainly hope it doesn’t come off as rough.
The very best is what I strive to do.
Hope I was able to impress this upon you.
This course needs to secure me an “A”,
Then I will know I am well on my way.
Medical school is what I truly seek,
I can’t get there with grades that are weak.
That’s why I work as hard as I do,
Hoping to glean an “A” grade from you!
This course has been a joy to take,
A better writer I will now make.
