Back To Work

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Well our flight got delayed in Puerto Rico so we arrived into Orlando much later than originally expected. We got home about 3:30 a.m. to bed about 4:30 a.m. and up at 7:30 a.m. for the first day of school. I found that I slipped right back into the swing of things in General Chemistry II with ease. I started my Calculus (which is an online course) and got 100% on the first quiz! Now I just have to keep the momentum moving forward – what only 4 months to go! Tomorrow brings me Organic Chemistry II and Biology II and I plan to tackle Calculus everyday so as not to fall behind. Somehow I get the feeling I’m going to be a tad immersed this semester! Wish me luck staying on the President’s list!!

I’m So Thankful

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

I’m so thankful to Dr. Bumann for allowing me to shadow him (and the O.R. team) these past 2 weeks. By tomorrow night I will have put in 50 hrs shadowing time in the Operating Room watching all sorts of surgeries with many different doctors/surgeons. I’ve learned so much it’s incredible! I know I am blessed to be afforded this privilege and I appreciate it more than anyone can imagine. I also owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Canton for helping to make this happen. I will be sad to leave St. Croix as I will surely miss the O.R. team, I will surely look forward to returning over the summer!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Well it is 2008 in St. Croix… Happy New Year Everyone!!!  This is going to be a great year!!!

Doctor Shadowing

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Been shadowing the anesthesiologist as much as possible since I’ve been here and loving it more and more. I’ve seen so many surgeries and each one brings me closer to knowing this is absolutely what I want to do. I’m thankful for this experience and feel blessed that I was afforded it. I fully understand now why medical schools like to see that you’ve shadowed a physician, it truly does give you a good idea to know if you really want to be a physician yourself. I’ve also learned so much just in the short while I’ve spent in the O.R. it’s incredible. The life lessons alone were well worth it. Dr. Bumann has gone out of his way to show me medical books and teach me about the varied techniques they use in surgical anesthesia. This has been truly an awesome experience, one I’m going to surely miss!
