I’m hoping 2008 will be totally greatI start school soon,

I can hardly waitI am taking 24 credits this coming term

Sheesh that will surely make me a bookworm!

I’m taking science and math that I need

One can feel overwhelmed indeed

My hope is that I sail through

Getting high grades is what I strive to do.

Wish me luck on this journey as it is about to crest

Of course my future plans will never arrest

On to university is my next stopI plan to make it over the top!

Next it will be my MCAT test

For it will show what I know best

Then medical colleges will I apply

On my merits I will surely rely.

I expect to do quite well with my medical studies

I will of course have my sons for study buddies!

We’re going that last mile together

Through many storms we’ll inevitably weather.

One day when we reach our intended goals

We’ll realize our new societal roles

Practicing medicine will be such enjoyment

It will make me proud that’s my employment.

Anesthesiology

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Spent a good part of today shadowing an anesthesiologist through the O.R. here on St Croix. What a great time I had, there was so much diversity and challenge it was an exciting and exhilarating experience. I know for sure this is the area of medicine I want to pursue, I can’t wait to get back there on Monday for some more shadowing hours. :-)

General Chemistry

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Well it’s official - got an email from the professor - I got an A in General Chemistry too! Yay! I’m so happy now - this is an awesome Christmas gift and a great way to end 2007 and a great way to begin 2008! I’m truly excited about how well I’ve done this past semester and how much I’ve learned. I love to learn and it’s just - well - invigorating to say the least!! :-)

Oral Communications - Speech

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Well I got an A!!!! Yes this makes me very happy! The professor said “…you are a natural! You have such a charismatic, natural delivery! You have such a natural rapport with your audience - I hope you will use your natural speaking talents in the future!” WOW - what an awesome compliment comment to read, I’m speechless! :-)

American Sign Language

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

I got an A in American Sign Language!!! Yeah - it feels great - I loved the course mostly because it enables me to communicate with Deaf people - which is awesome!! It truly feels great to get an A in the class though too :-)

Organic Chemistry Final

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Well I didn’t get 100% - but I feel I did well anyway - I got a couple wrong for sure - but I certainly nailed my reactions - time will tell how I did in the class - waiting on the professor to email me my grade - like the others - so I won’t stress - I will move on and prepare for round two :-) At least I can take a sigh of relief now - and one thing is for sure - I know my Elimination & Substitution reactions!!!

General Chemistry…

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Well I got a 94.5 on my General Chemistry final - I’ve been doing well throughout the term (I believe) and - well no predictions - it ain’t so till the professor says it is! Tomorrow morning is my Organic Chemistry final - where I get to show how much I know about reactions, functional groups and enantiomers. Since I fully understand my E1/E2 and Sn1/Sn2 reactions - I believe I’m good to go!! Next post I should be posting my grades - I hope to know them soon… waiting on pins and needles (sort of) for my speech grade - at least the professor received my DVD finally - so I can breathe a sigh of relief there! Off to bed now… wish me luck!

Deaf Night At The Mall

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Well we went to Deaf night at the mall last night. Something interesting happened there. We wound up meeting a recently Deaf person who is very frustrated because he knows no one and he comes from New York (where I am originally from) and he learned sign language from a community of Deaf people up there. Some of the signs he either self-taught or was taught very different than what we’ve been taught in ASL - I’m talking about the basic signs too. Not being an expert - but knowing enough to know he was doing the very basic signs wrongly - I helped him by making the necessary corrections… Luckily for us he knew how to lip read well - but he needed to be able to communicate and he was frustrated. I made introductions for him - I introduced him to John who is Deaf and used to teach ASL and I introduced him to Danny and his wife Velma and also the Pastor of the Deaf Church at The Mall as well. He kept saying “I don’t know anyone” and I kept refreshing his memory that he now does - hopefully he’ll come back every month and we’ll get him more comfortable with the local Deaf community and he’ll make some close friends. All in all we had a very good time last night at the mall - looking forward to the next monthly “Silent Dinner” at the mall!

Speech Class etc.

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Well I made it through my audience presented speeches last night. Since it was difficult to gather 5 people to create an audience in the first place - I had to do all my speeches at one time while I had them hostage, um I mean over ;-) So all went well I think even though it was quite exhausting. I also recorded my song for ASL project which is due tonight as well. SO all in all - I have a general chemistry lab final today, the organic chemistry lab final was yesterday and next week ALL of my courses have a final to do. Then it will be off to St. Croix. While there Dr. Bumann (anesthesiologist) has graciously agreed to allow me to shadow him! Yipee! I’m really VERY excited to actually be in the OR with him to watch what he does, in the very least it will help me decide if that’s what I want to do - which is what I am thinking about doing - becoming an anesthesiologist.
