ASL
Stands for American Sign Language. I’ve gotten 100’s on my class tests and next week is the midterm. I feel very good about it and I am also working on my class project. We have to pick a song and learn to sign it and perform it for the class. I’ve chosen “In The Ghetto” by Elvis Presley and have been working on translating it into ASL and learning the signs. Once I learn the signs I then have to practice doing them where it flows nicely and looks like art. When you see songs performed in ASL it’s like art in motion it’s just beautiful to the eyes to see. I want to be able to give a stellar performance and I plan to practice to do just that. We’ve (the kids and I) decided to sign more to each other in the house. It’s quite fun actually, once we get better at it it will be even more fun, because right now we’re more at the level of still having to finger spell many words. We found the closest Deaf Church and plan to attend Sunday. There’s also a Deaf conference we’re going to attend next Saturday. The Deaf community overall have been very kind to us, we find the people very eager to help us learn our signs better and a joy to chat with. Most people probably don’t think of Deaf people and chatting in the same thought - but I am here to tell you they do just that and they do so with more enthusiasm than us hearing people do too. I’m very happy with my choice to learn sign language and I am very grateful our college has offered it for us!
