Week by Week

Well into a regular grind now… Chem, Org Chem and ASL. Every week we get quizzed in all of them. I am doing quite well considering I never had any science before and certainly was never exposed to American Sign Language before either, I think I was one of the few in the class that didn’t even know how to fingerspell the alphabet prior to class. I have learned SO much thus far and I find everything science so fascinating and learning ASL a joy, I am picking it up way faster than most other languages - I got 100’s on my tests in ASL! My goal is to learn it well enough to be fluent in it, I feel this will be an attribute for going into the medical profession. The deaf community is very special and I never really stopped to “know it” before now - but I am totally addicted to it now :-) School is fun and this semester is a joy - lots of work this is true - but when you truly love doing it - it’s fun!

Musical Courses…

Here we go again! It turns out that the Dean of our school has decided not to allow Independent Study courses for “higher level math” and our Independent Study was denied. This was an awful blow to us - you see when our Bio II course abruptly got canceled we were left with a huge science void. We had totally counted on really getting into the science mode and we had it all nicely planned prior to the end of the Spring semester 2007. At some point over the summer they realized they only had 4 students for Bio II and decided to cancel the course. By the time I was made aware of this it was not at a point I could do much about it. During the first week of school I inquired with the science professor teaching our General Chemistry course about Organic Chemistry - and then we immediately were allowed entrance into it. Thankfully so too - I’ve taken 2 quizzes thus far and not sure of the Organic Chem quiz (probably will find out tomorrow/later today as it’s quite late here/ truly early morning!) but I feel I didn’t get more than one wrong if that - and today we had our General Chem quiz and it was graded in class and I got 100% (yeah!!) SO I KNOW I am on the right track with my science (which I find so fascinating and appealing) focus/major. I will figure something out for the math - it always seems to fall into place somehow! :-)
