With my Algebra final now behind me (I feel good about it!!) I’ve got one class test and one final left - in Biology - to be completed for this semester. Next week is nail biting time to watch my grades come in - I am at an A now in Biology- hoping to maintain it!! Wish me luck! :-)

What a crazy world we do live in.

There’s so much to say where to begin?

When you think you are safe in your life

You can suddenly fall upon turmoil and strife.

People are trying to better themselves,

So they can do more than stock shelves.

They go to school to gain an education

Or perhaps they are there to learn a vocation.

They most likely feel safe to go to school

For some people life on campus is even cool.

Then all of a sudden our foundation is rocked

By some lunatic who’s wielding a gun that’s cocked.

He unloads rounds of ammunition all over the place

Hitting people in their legs, stomachs and face.

Many people senselessly die

As the entire campus goes awry.

We see traces of columbine tragedy here

Who would’ve expected this to rear.

So many lives have been shattered.

So many people have now been battered.

How will we as a society pick up and move on?

It will take all the newfound fears to be gone.

Somehow we have to heal and go on our path

This is tough to do in any aftermath.

The families and friends these victims left

Are without a doubt now bereft.

Can’t imagine what it’s like to be in their shoes

Hearing such unspeakable horrific news.

In the end all we can do is pray

Hoping that helps them get through their day.

Thoughts and prayers are sprinkled around

They bring with them a peaceful sound.

We pray for the day when calm does exist.

When stability and peace does subsist.

When we can get on with our lives not just in a normal fashion

But when we can go on forward with a lot of passion.

What will it take for this balance to restore?

To get life back to what it was once before.

We must rid the violence that has become the norm

And make peace and compassion take on new form.

VIRGINIA TECH

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Words can’t express the shock I feel - being a college student now it makes me shudder to think what it must’ve been like to be on campus for school when this broke out. My thoughts are with the families, the friends and the faculty of Virginia Tech - prayers are surely sent their way. I’m sure there is no way to make sense of any of this - I have no idea how the survivors will cope - I hope they have a lot of strength, as they surely will need it. This was a tragic horrific event that took place. I hadn’t even found out till last night - I was away from any TV/media to even know such a thing was going on. Today at my campus I couldn’t help but feel for those people at VA Tech - my thoughts were with them as I wandered about my campus feeling very safe. School is supposed to be a safe place; it certainly used to be. It’s sad for us all that this event took place; we will all be marred from it in one way or another, this world will never be the same. I can’t even fathom a motivating factor the shooter could have had. :-(

D2L Site

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Our school has what is called a D2L (short for Desire 2 Learn) web interface site and the server must be broken. Right after I uploaded the last of my English assignments on Friday it went offline and has been offline ever since, with a server not found message displayed. I hope my work is not lost up there - but alas if it is I have it here still - so I will be okay. I wrote a poem for my Drama Essay and I just wrote another inspired by the foulings of computers. Both poems can be found on the poem page, “What Is Love” and “Tech Today”. Enjoy!

Poems…

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I add poems all the time (added one today in fact) though it doesn’t show as more in quantity - this is because it is a page and is a continual running log - so it just shows as one page.I have kept (for now at least) my poem for Draven on top - newer ones get added just right below.

Down to the wire…

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Looks like it will be a dog race - between Earth Revealed final tests, College Algebra final work and the actual “final exam” (which is worth a whole lot of points!), Biology and English. Everyone wants something all at once (almost). I wouldn’t mind it as much if it was a tad staggered - but boy … Biology has 3 more tests for me to complete (though course!) - working on completing with an A. I have to finish reading “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” by Shakespeare and then complete all the assignments and do 1000 word drama essay. Just when I get done I get to start all over with Trig & Humanities - am I nuts or what? ;-)

Sociology…

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Completed my sociology final early. Now I am just waiting on my final grade - which I am confident will be an “A”. This was an awesome course that taught me so much invaluable information about society and how it functions to depths I was never exposed to before. I’m glad it was a required course; otherwise I’d have missed a lot! Being able to take it as a telecourse really helped me in more ways than I can count. Not having to be on campus is probably the most beneficial aspect; however being able to study at my own pace and accelerate the course was a great aspect as well. This professor was awesome too!Update - just got my grade back - it is an “A” - yes! :-)

Registered - yeah!

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Well my fear about not getting into trig for the summer session (it being the only class offered during the summer) is over! I was able to register yesterday and pick all my classes for the summer and the upcoming fall session too. It’s a good feeling knowing that my path is paved and ready to go, so no worries about that any more. I will be taking American Sign Language with both my son & daughter, how much fun will that be in class together?! As for scheduling all I have to think about now is the spring of 2008 session, and those classes I will be able to register for online. Found out what that was all about too, apparently they have a lock out system which showed me as not a student there - once this semester’s credits show up - once I get grades and they show up actually - it will open that block up. Apparently they needed a mechanism to ensure that students were able to register online prior to public - having grades in said key box protects the students’ ranking. The age of computers - we’ve got a lot of it figured out and it makes our life easier and some of it still in this day and age is as primitive a system as that :-) Going to work on my Shakespeare now…

Venting…

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

I stayed up till midnight so I’d be able to register for the summer and fall classes - to ensure we got the ones we needed so that our road to medical school was a smooth one. The darn system has me locked out for some reason and it won’t let me pick classes even though it’s supposed to let me on April 1st (which technically is today). I find these glitches frustrating… now I have to wait till I can physically get there to do this - I suppose on the way home from work I can do it Monday night or Tuesday when done with Biology class - either before or after the Sociology final. They give us computer technology then it can’t be implemented - it’s like such a tease I swear. With the price of gasoline (approaching $3 a gallon again) it certainly makes it more economical for people to be able to use this technology too.
